How to Move a Couch Safely & Efficiently

Recruit Help

Moving large items like a couch alone can be difficult and potentially dangerous, so it's best to have at least one other person assisting you. Start by asking a few friends or family members to help you. If you're moving a particularly large or heavy couch, navigating multiple flights of stairs or narrow hallways, or unable to find another person to help, you might want to consider hiring professional movers.

Gather the Necessary Equipment

Whether you're moving across town or across the country, having the right tools on hand makes every step of the moving process easier and safer. Before trying to move your couch, collect these essential moving supplies:
